Week of 7/30 - 8/3/18

Hello Panthers!

I hope you enjoyed the cool weather today! The start of the school year is right around the corner. Hard to believe that summer fun is almost over. Included some new details and some information from last week as well.

Just a reminder that the first day of school is Thursday, August 16th!

Here is some information to get your school year started:

Panther Camp - Aug 3rd - 1:00 - 8:00 pm
All 6th grade students are encouraged to attend Panther Camp on Friday, August 3rd from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Students should be receiving a phone call from a WEB leader to invite them and give more details. The event is mainly about team building and getting acclimated to Ridgeview. They will take a tour of the school and be able to interact with their 8th grade WEB leader to ask questions they have. Most importantly, they will be able to start building new friendships with students from other elementary schools that they might not know. We will be feeding students pizza around 5:00. The remainder of the evening will be a fun movie night watching “Wonder.” This will be a great movie for developing empathy and a reminder that everyone is a little different in their own way. We hope to see you there!

RMS Summer Band Camp
Tuesday, July 31 - Thursday, August 2 (1:00 PM-4:00 PM) @ RMS Band Hall

Band Camp takes place THIS WEEK in the RMS Band Hall and is for all returning band students only (no beginners). At camp students will strengthen their individual and ensemble skills, learn and perform fun music, and build friendships! Camp concludes with an informal concert in the Band Hall for family and friends as well as a pool party at Rock'N River! Please check out the SUMMER BAND CAMP FLYER with all of the camp details and let us know if you have any questions. See you soon!

Panther Welcome - August 9th - 4:00 - 7:00 pm
Panther Welcome is an opportunity for students to start the year right. One of the highlights for students is receiving their schedule and finding out who their teachers will be for the upcoming school year. The campus will be open for students and parents to tour and learn more about the school. PTA will be selling memberships and spirit wear as well as having sign-ups for available positions! This is a great way to support the school and to show your school spirit. We will also have planners or organizers for sale. These are encouraged for all students to help organize their day, week, and month. There will be more explicit instruction on how to use the planner and what should be included in it daily. Coaches will be available to talk with you about PE/Athletics and give information about uniforms. Watch Dogs will also be on hand to sign-up for volunteer opportunities. School supplies should not be dropped off during this event! This is a come and go event. Teachers will not be available to talk with parents on this evening, but will leave information at the door. We encourage everyone to attend Back to School Night to meet the teachers! Hope to see you there!

Athletics Information
All students signed up for RMS athletics must have a current physical on file. Paperwork can be turned in to the coaches during Panther Welcome on Thursday 8/9 from 4-7 in the gym. If you are not able to attend Panther Welcome, paperwork can be turned in the first week of school. We would prefer they be turned into us rather than dropped off in the front office.

Athletes are also required to have Rank One online paperwork completed to participate in athletics. Please use the link to access the required online paperwork and a copy of the physical form. Please use the provided physical form for the Dr. to complete.

Athletic Uniform InformationCoaches will be available to take orders for athletic clothing on Wednesday 8/1 from 4:30-6:30 pm in the lower commons. We will be using the same uniforms as last year. The cost is $15 for the shorts and $15 for the shirt. We can only accept cash or check.

Volleyball Try-Outs
Volleyball try-outs will be 3 days: Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, August 17th, 20th, and 21st. You must have the physical form and all online paperwork completed to try out. All 3 days of tryouts must be attended. The mandatory VB Parent Meeting for the parents of those who make the team will be held on Thursday, August 23rd at 5:15 PM in the cafeteria.

Try Out Times:
7th Grade: 6:15-8:15 AM
8th Grade: 3:35-5:35 PM

You must wear dress code athletic gear and proper footwear to try out. Knee pads are encouraged.

Parents of 7th Graders!
If you haven’t turned in updated shot records for your student please do so as soon as possible! Your child will not be able to pick up their class schedule or start school until a current complete record is received. Records can be dropped off in the front office, faxed (512-424-8540) or emailed (joanne_johnson@roundrockisd.org). Please email if you have any questions or concerns.

Summer Reading Assignments
Just a reminder that summer reading assignments are due on August 17th. Here is the link from the website for more information.

Need a Book to Read?
It is not too late to get in a good book or two before the summer is over. The RRISD Pop-Up Library will be making stops through the end of next week. Here is the schedule of the remaining stops. If you are not able to make it to those stops, remember to check out the public library. Need some suggestions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Kay, RMS Librarian @ linda_kay@roundrockisd.org. She will happily give you some suggestions for a great summer read.

Make it a great week! The choice is yours!
