Week of 12/17 - 12/21/18

Hello Panthers!
Can you believe it? Three school days this week and the first semester is behind us. I feel like I need another month before first semester should be over, but I am not going to request it :) That just means we have to hit the ground running when we return in January! I have talked about anxiety and anxiousness around the holidays. I want to talk about something else that adds to the mix: sugar and caffeine!

Please do not send your student with sugar and caffeine for consumption with friends this week. I am urging my teachers to not have classroom parties because we the highs and lows of sugar and caffeine, we also have unexpected behaviors that we should not have at school. I want to finish off the semester with everyone safe and sound and in great spirits, but we do not need the extra sugar and caffeine to make that happen. Thank you for supporting me in this effort!

Week of 12/10-12/14/18

Hello Panthers!
Welcome back crazy weather! I don’t know why I always start with the weather, I guess it is something that we all have in common. That and our lovely middle school students. Not sure if you noticed a tingle of crazy in the air last week, but it seemed to surface around mid-week. I am thinking it probably had something to do with the rain that accompanied it on Thursday and Friday. Bundle up to start the week, it is going to be cold!

Canned Food Drive
Ridgeview is in the midst of a great service project! The canned food drive is off and running as teams compete for the top honor. I am not too thrilled about the top honor, which is throwing a pie in my face, but hey, I am a good sport if nothing else and if it helps a good cause, then I am fully on board. Advisories from across the three grade levels have been placed into teams and have until the end of the week to bring in as many cans as possible. Our goal is to raise over 6800 cans. This equates to around 5 cans per stud…

Week of 12/3 - 12/7/18

Hello Panthers!
I hope you had an incredible weekend! What weird weather we had Friday night with 10 minutes of heavy rain, lightning, wind, and even hail. How do you like these weeks of 30’s to 80’s. I don’t want to speak too soon, but looks like we might have that happen again this week. We truly are fitting the stereotype of Texas weather.

It is officially December! That usually means that we are getting close to the end of the semester. Doesn’t seem that long ago that the semester ended in January. We now end in December before the winter break. So, time to buckle down and get three good weeks of school in!

NASA Participation
This Wednesday, December 5, the Gateway classes will be participating in a video conference with scientists, engineers and astronauts from NASA who are working on the Lunar Orbital Platform - Gateway (LOP-G). We were one of 35 schools across the nation selected to participate in this, so it's a pretty exciting and rare opportunity. We'll get to see what i…

Week of 11/26-11/30/18

Hello Panthers!
We have a couple of basketball games going this week and some rehearsals, but it is a great week to ease back into the swing of things.

Canned Food Drive Begins!
We will be doing a canned food drive challenge over the next few weeks. Advisory classes from each grade level will be put into teams of three to compete for prizes, but the real winners will be the food bank and those in need of help. We will update the challenge as we go. Students should take all canned food to their advisory class and not drop it off in the front office.

Hope I hope you had a tremendous holiday week! Personally, I was able to have some time away from the day to day business. Always feels good to be able to relax and know that the next day you won’t be presented with a number of challenges. Of course, that all changes when you go back to work on Monday, but it is good to have that feeling for a couple of days. I was also able to spend time with family. I guess as I grow older I realize the impo…

Week of 11/12-11/16/18

Hello Panthers!
What a nasty couple of days of weather we have in store for us to start the week. Please be patient if you are dropping off your student in the morning. We will do our best to move the lines through quickly.

Veterans Day Celebration
I am speechless over the Veterans Day Parade! I have been doing some sort of celebration for Veterans Day for a long time, but for whatever reason, I think this was the best one yet. It was truly heartwarming to see our students cheering on the veterans in appreciation for serving our country. A special thank you to everyone that was involved in making Friday a memorable occasion!

Thanksgiving Break - Next Week!
Just a reminder that we have a full week of school this week, Monday through Friday! Next week we will have a full week off! We will be ready to greet students again on Monday, November 26th.

Football Field and Track Closed During Break
The football field and track will be closed through the Thanksgiving Break. Grounds crew have been work…

Week of 11/5-11/9/18

Hello Panthers!
I have been doing some writing lately and the feedback was that I use the same words over and over, so I am going to switch it up a little bit. I hope you had an unbelievable weekend! The weather was perfect for being outside unless you were on the wrong end of a two-point conversion. Anyway, we are set for a fun week at Ridgeview, culminating in our Veteran’s Day parade.

Wrapped up two and starting the third Six Weeks
This week we begin the third six weeks and final six weeks of the semester. We wrap up football and basketball gets under way. Fine Arts wrapped up a busy weekend, but for many of our band students they will compete again at Regionals this weekend. 32 of the 44 students who made District will be competing for a spot at Regionals. Theater competed in One Act Play. We had two Honorable Mention All-Star Cast members, two All-Star Cast members, a Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor awards as well as outstanding technical contribution award. Grea…

Week of 10/29-11/2/18

Hello Panthers!
I bet you are ready for the week to start so that it can end, just like me. This is always one of those fun, but irritating weeks of the year. We get the joy of having Halloween mid-week. Please don’t let your student bring Halloween candy to school. They get enough sugar as it is. They really don’t need an extra jolt. We are looking for a smooth week and celebration on Friday!

Trunk or Treat Success!
If you didn’t make it out to the 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat, you missed a good community event! I was not surprised, but truly filled with joy to see all the community members from our feeder schools come out to join us. What a great event! The food trucks and band were the icing on the cake to all the great trunks that were present. If you didn’t get to stop by and talk with the great and powerful Oz, you missed out! Thank you PTA for organizing an amazing event!
Beautification Day
Thanks to everyone that came out and participated in the Beautification Day. We had a great t…

Week of 10/22-10/26/18

Hello Panthers!
Another week is in the books as we narrow the window on October. What a crazy week of weather! I was glad to see no rain over the weekend, not to say that it won’t rain again this week. I see that it is supposed to be cold, so make sure your students bundles up in the morning. Several things going on this week and coming up soon.

Red Ribbon Week
Students will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week. There will be different themes along with a Public Service Announcement video contest. We encourage all students to participate.

Week of 10/15 - 10/19/18

Hello Panthers,
I hope you were able to enjoy a great weekend with amazing weather. Looking at the forcast it looks like the weather will be much cooler this week. I am going to make a prediction that you can call me on next week. Not sure how many of you are old enough to remember Carnac the magnificent, but here it goes. “We will have no fewer than 20 jackets/hoodies added to the lost and found over the next week, half of which will never be reported missing to parents and half of which students will say someone took when they set it down.” Seriously though, all items found are taken to the lost and found area in the lower commons outside the cafeteria. All hangable items will be on a hanger so that students or parents are able to identify. Although I encourage you to make students find their own lost clothes. I opened my calendar and promptly closed it. It is going to be a busy week full of activities. Make sure you stay up with all the latest by clicking on the “Upcoming Events” ta…

Week of 10/8-10/12/18

Hello Panthers,
I hope you had a fabulous weekend! Remember that students do not have school Monday or Tuesday 10/8-10/9! We will be busy with professional development on both days. The school office will be open, but teachers and administration will not be available. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday!

Week of 10/1 - 10/5/18

Hello Panthers!
I hope you enjoyed the weekend! Lot of wins for Texas football teams this weekend, which is sometimes rare! I hope your favorite team did well. Everyone excited for October? This week seems low key, but is actually quite busy.

Festival of the Bands - Oct 1st, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
If you love to watch marching band perform then come on out to Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex on Monday night from 6:00 - 9:00 pm for the annual Festival of Bands! Hear from all middle and high school RRISD schools, including your famous Ridgeview Panther band!

The votes have been counted and the theme is MASQUERADE Madness. Your student can dress to fit the theme or not, but they do need to be dress code compliant. The dance will be at Ridgeview on October 5th from 6:30 until 9pm. Admission wristbands will be sold the week before the dance; both online and during lunch. Wristbands cost 5 dollars or 4 dollars if your student is a PTA member. The dance…

Week of 9/24-9/28/18

Hello Panthers!
I hope you had a great weekend! It was nice to dry out a little. I was even able to mow the yard yesterday. What’s up with all the mushrooms blooming? I am not a gardener by any means, but some have told me that it is actually a positive sign even though they look like an eyesore. I had a few in my flowerbed that looked like Smurf Mansion. A week later they completely melted into a smelly glop. I presume by Gargamel. Science is so cool and so weird at the same time!

College Day
College Day is upon us! I am so glad that the Longhorns won this weekend so that I am able to wear burnt orange. We have been hard at work getting students sign-up this past week. I am pleased to say that we have over 60 sessions for students to choose from. If your student did not get signed up. Don’t let it stress them out. We will help find some sessions during the first session so that they are at least able to attend three out of the four. Hopefully students get the hang of using Sched as a …
